Oh, yeah! “The Hunger”. Obscure classic that should get more exposure. There was one little clip of music (not in the trailer) that drove me crazy, for years. I could not track it down. It was not identified in the credits. Then it started popping up in ads, here and there.
It was from the lesbian love scene. Turned out to be “The Flower Duet” from an obscure french opera. “Lakme” by Delibes. Movies (media, for that matter) can lead us many places. As Forster said, “Only connect…” .
Love The Hunger, it made quite an impression when it first came out. Like one long stylish music video, it has some great moments. There’s a story that Bowie went to the George Washington Bridge and screamed his head off to get the gravelly sound of his voice when he turns uber old.
And Lew, The Flower Duet is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
Wow! Only a few short blocks from my house. He hated The Hunger. It was groundbreaking. I SO look forward to Coma, especially now. A mystery as to why he chose this way to exit. Everyone has demons.
I can understand why someone would commit suicide over going thru the agonizing pain of brain cancer but jumping off a bridge while dramatic must have been painful surely there has to be a less painfull way to do it
