Will never forget the day she passed. I was a little paperboy then, delivering the morning paper. In the Dark Ages before instant, everything. When we picked up our papers at 5am, there was the headline. It made me feel weird and kind of powerful. The sleeping city (Portland, Oregon), unaware and we were about to deliver the news. A real bombshell.
Lew–It was a Sunday, and I too will never forget it. I was heading for my summer job selling hamburgers, hot dogs and shakes at the beach side Snack Shack when the news came over the radio. What is never mentioned these days is that many in the American middle class, especially women, looked down on her as a cheap tramp.

There was a short on one of the movie channels the other day, with George Chakiris, talking about making the Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend number. He talked about what a pro she was, when the take would end, instead of going back to her dressing room, or walking off the set, she would go right back to her first mark, ready to start over if need be. He also made an interesting observation that I had never really thought about before. She’s contemporary. Her look and vibe transcend time, and she’s always current. I’ll honestly say she’s never been one of my ultimate favorites, but I have to give her her due. Out of a sea of blondes, she ruled supreme. Much like so many of them, especially James Dean, it would have been fascinating to see them age. Chances are she would have done her share of campy horror, mercilessly made fun of, then at some point been cast in a come back role, breathlessly giving an Oscar speech that reduced us all to tears. We’ll never know. I hate the idea that when they die young they are forever beautiful, forever preserved in their prime. Fuck that, she deserved better.
they just dont make them like Marilyn any longer her comedic timing was flawless
i always laugh my ass off in gentlemen prefer blondes when she is told a letter of introduction is like a line of credit and she tells her boyfriend to write everyday LOL
