New Bond femme fatale Berenice Marlohe and classic Bond woman Martine Beswick will take to the red carpet tonight (May 21) at The Palais where they will introduce the first public screening of the Skyfall teaser trailer. Marlohe plays Severine in Skyfall which opens this fall. Beswick, who played Zora in From Russia With Love and Paula in Thunderball, will introduce a special screening of From Russia With Love at 9:45 PM following the teaser screening at 9:30 PM. Event is part of the Cannes Classics Cinema de la Plage outdoor screening series celebrating 50 years of Bond (May 17th-23rd) which is said to be 007′s first-ever presence at the festival. Other films on the schedule include Dr No, Diamonds Are Forever, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Casino Royale.--Deadline Hollywood
Part of the charm and excitement of Casino Royale was Bond as an object, to be admired and used by his government and those around him. It’s both the character’s blessing and curse. The shadow shot of Craig standing in the doorway shirtless at the beginning of the trailer would have been much more effective had he been nude. The thing that stands out about the first film is Bond emerging from the ocean, a reverse of Andress and Berry’s exploitation swimsuit shots. This concept of a male as much a sex object was part of the power of the revivial of Bond, but, as is the case with many clever ideas in films now, it’s pretty much been abandoned.
