Dad Goes To College
Sunday Aug 28
8:35 A.M.
I was right in the middle of cutting a scene where Dad says something salty to his son Lyle when the power went out. I had just hit the Save key an instant before, so I crossed my fingers and hoped that all was not lost, cause it was quite an… involving moment.

Wednesday Aug 31

The power just popped back on. Here’s what I was working on. More tomorrow.

Dad and son share a uniquely male bonding experience.

The high winds started in the middle of the night–about 3:45 AM. By daylight the rain and wind was going at what I would call a medium-high pitch. I took a look outside at around 6 AM and saw some fallen tree branches and a downed tiki torch I had forgotten to move into the shed. The leak dead-center in the sun porch roof –I just got new rubber matting yesterday to repair it–is minimal so far, and I’ve got the lobster-boiling pot on the floor underneath it to catch the rainwater when it comes through. If it comes through. So far, this whole deal seems like a media-churned sky-is-falling kinda thing, if you ask me.

BLOG COMMENT: It doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as the hurricane that hit NYC in that two-part season finale of Night Court.

12:38 PM Heavy downfall starts, then tapers off

This all stands a good chance of being beaten to the ground in the next 24 hours.

Got to the community farm early this morning to get ahead of the storm and stock up on the green stuff. Got a melon, some kale, parsley and cilantro. Tomatoes are abundant, but I’ve already begun harvesting what I planted in my own garden. Skipped all the other stuff, as I have plenty to weather it out.
A gentle rain started hitting my windshield at exactly 9:15 AM as I drove to the post office; I ran some other errands and am now back at the editing bay in the cottage. Hoping no trees fall on my rickety shack (and by extension–me). Sent the dog back into the city, as storms freak her out and I’ve got too much on my plate to attend to her (adorable) canine neurosis.
Back to Scene Three of Dad Goes To College. As long as I’ve got power, I’ll update as events unfold.

There’s a YouTube clip, but why bother posting it? The good Lord only knows what he’ll say about the coming storm.
